PureGym Giffnock

Personal Trainer in Giffnock, Glasgow

I am Rhys. I coach in person at PureGym Giffnock, and I get people stupidly strong and into the best shape of their life. Including the ones carrying an old injury who have been told to take it easy.

Who this is for

You put the work in. It should show by now.

Effort was never your problem. Nobody has ever looked at what you are actually doing and told you the truth about it.

You train three or four times a week and look about the same as last year.

You are not sure your programme is progressing. You just keep turning up.

Your lifts have gone up but your body has not really changed with them.

Bulk, cut, repeat. Years of it, and you are back where you started.

The food holds all week then falls apart on a Friday.

An old injury you work around badly, or avoid so much that half your training has gone with it.

Beginners are welcome and I coach plenty of them. But the people who get the most out of me are the ones already doing the work with nothing to show for it. That gap is fixable.

People I have actually coached.

Real clients, real numbers, and the bit that came before the photo. Some train with me in person, some online.

140kg deadliftCraig, an RDH Coaching client, before and after
Craig · in person, two years

He couldn't get up the stairs with his daughter.

Office job, five year old, permanently knackered. He now carries her on his shoulders without thinking about it, and pulls 140kg off the floor from a standing start as a complete beginner.

100→160kg deadliftReiss, an RDH Coaching client, back development progress
Reiss · online, 12 weeks

Shaky reps to clean reps.

Sixty kilos added to his deadlift in twelve weeks, and a back that finally looks like he trains it. Nothing exotic. The programme just progressed properly for once.

4 stone downScott, an RDH Coaching client, before and after fat loss
Scott

130kg, and his knees were in bits.

He had never set foot in a gym. Two hundred metres on the skier left him soaked. Over four stone down now, and the habits that got him there are not going anywhere.

How I coach

An hour of exercise is not coaching.

Anyone can make you tired. That is the easy part. What actually changes your body is whether the training progresses week to week, and whether you understand why you are doing it.

So sessions are not random. You get a structure that builds, loads that go up on purpose, and technique fixed on the spot rather than three months and one sore shoulder later.

Nutrition gets built around your actual week, including the Friday. You do not need to give up your weekends to lose fat. You need a plan that survives them.

And you leave knowing the mechanism, not just the exercise. That is the difference between someone who needs a trainer forever and someone who eventually does not.

Injuries do not get avoided, they get worked around properly. I have had my own, including a broken leg that needed surgery, and I have coached people through torn knees, bad backs and joints that could not handle the weight they were carrying. Training around something is not the same as training less. Usually you end up stronger than before it happened.

★★★★★

Rhys is incredibly knowledgeable, informative and professional, providing excellent training and nutrition advice tailored to my goals. He’s always available when I need feedback, whether that’s during regular check-ins or simply through a quick message.

My PT sessions have helped me understand what I’m capable of, from using different equipment and weighted cardio to improving my strength, fitness and endurance. Completing a full circuit without stopping is something I wouldn’t have thought possible a few weeks ago.

I never thought I’d enjoy going to the gym, but thanks to Rhys’s support and approach, it’s become something I genuinely look forward to.

Where

Personal training at PureGym Giffnock.

This is where the in person work happens. It is a big floor with proper kit, so nothing in your programme is limited by what is free that day.

A session is not me counting your reps at you. We work through the lifts that matter, I fix technique while you are actually doing it, and you leave with the next block already mapped out.

It sits handy for Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton Mearns and the wider Southside, with free parking on site, so it is a short hop rather than a cross city trek after work.

Your coach

I did it the long way round.

I started at 52kg in a gym on Jamaica Street and spent years training four or five times a week with almost nothing to show for it. I tracked everything, read everything, got nowhere.

I am a Chemistry graduate and took my Level 3 in 2023 while working full time as an analytical scientist, coached a few friends for free in early 2024, and left the lab later that year to do this properly. Over 100 people coached since.

I have also broken myself a fair few times along the way, including a leg that needed surgery, so I have spent years working out how to keep training when something is not right rather than sitting on the couch waiting for it to fix itself.

I know exactly what it feels like to train in this city and get nowhere. That is the bit I fix.

The process

What you actually get.

1

Apply. Three questions, two minutes. I read every one and reply myself.

2

We talk. Your training history, your injuries, your week. Then I tell you straight whether I can help.

3

Sessions plus everything around them. A programme, nutrition that fits your week, and me reviewing it as we go.

The session is the visible bit. What decides the outcome is the other 167 hours, so that is where the rest of the work goes: what you train on the days I do not see you, what you eat around a normal week, and what changes when something stalls.

We work in blocks of 8 to 12 weeks, because that is roughly how long it takes to know whether something is working.

Questions

Straight answers.

PureGym Giffnock, in the south of Glasgow. It is handy for Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton Mearns and the wider Southside, and parking there is free.

Yes. Giffnock is a short drive from all of them, which is a good part of why I coach out of there. If you are further out, online coaching covers the same ground without the commute.

Usually yes, and it is a lot of what I do. I have coached people through torn knees, bad backs and joints that were struggling under the weight they were carrying, and most end up stronger than they were before it happened. I am not a physio and I will not diagnose anything, so if it is undiagnosed or getting worse you see a doctor or physio first. Once you know what you are dealing with, I build the training around it.

Yes. Craig and Scott both started as complete beginners. That said, I am at my most useful for people already training hard who cannot work out why it is not showing.

That is where most of the result comes from. You get a programme for the days I do not see you, nutrition built around your actual week, and me reviewing how it is going rather than waiting for the next hour together.

Yes, and plenty do. A common route is starting face to face until the lifts feel automatic, then moving online once you trust yourself under the bar.

Yes. To train with me in person at Giffnock you will need your own PureGym membership. Parking there is free.

It depends what you are after and how much you already know your way around a gym. I run a few different in person packages based on how many sessions a week you want, and we work out which one actually fits you on the call.

In person pricing depends on the package, because it changes with how many sessions a week you do. We go through the options on the call so you can pick the one that suits.
