Resting it forever rarely fixes it. I train people around sore backs and dodgy knees until they're stronger than they were before it happened, in person at PureGym Giffnock or online.
How I know this works ↓I'm not a physio and I'll never pretend to be one.
Over the years I've broken my leg, which left me with four pins and a titanium rod in it. I've dislocated an elbow, broken a wrist, torn ligaments and had a long run with tendinopathy, and I trained my way back from every one of them.
Every one taught me the same thing. The people who sat still waiting to feel better usually didn't, and the ones who kept moving around it did.
So that's how I coach it. We find what you can do today, load it, and build from there.
You tell me straight away, not at your next check in.
We swap whatever's poking it for something that doesn't, same muscle, different angle, so you don't lose the week.
Weights come down where they need to and stay up everywhere else. Once it settles we build it back up slowly, and you'll know why every change was made.
If something needs diagnosing, you go and see a physio or your GP. I'm happy to work alongside them and build their advice into your plan.
Alaric tore his ACL. Instead of skipping legs, we trained around the knee and kept him moving forward.
Craig came in with back pain and got breathless picking up his daughter. He's pain free now and carries her without thinking about it.
Scott's knee pain eased off as the weight came down and his legs got stronger.
A client in her seventies has worked around a sore back and a pulled glute over two years with me. She still trains twice a week, with yoga on top.
For a lot of the people I train, the win is getting up off the floor without a hand, or sleeping through without their back waking them up.
Their balance gets better and they stop being scared of the gym. Looking better tends to follow, it's just not always the first thing that changes.
You got injured and stopped training because you didn't know what was safe.
You want to stay strong for the next 20 years, not just this summer.
You've been signed off by physio and you're stuck on what to do next.
Not for you yet if the injury is fresh and hasn't been looked at. Get it checked first, then come back to me.
Tell me what's going on with the injury in your application.
I'll send you a video within 24 hours showing how I'd work around it.
Over to you
Cheers for that. I read every one myself and if it's a fit you'll get a video from me within 24 hours walking through exactly how this works, so keep an eye on your inbox.
Most of the people I coach have never trained next to me once. It's the same programme and the same weekly review without the commute. See how online coaching works.
The Programme Builder tells you what to train for your level and your goal. It takes two minutes and I send the plan straight to your inbox along with everything else I write.
Build my programme →Tell me where you're stuck and I'll point you at the right next step. No pitch, and I'll tell you straight if coaching isn't what you need yet.
Message me directly →When the timing's right, the application is still there
